How to Make Homemade Ketchup with Fresh Tomatoes

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Tomatoes: Wash and chop the tomatoes. Place them in a pot and cook over low heat until they soften.
  2. Puree the Tomatoes: Once softened, strain the tomatoes or blend them until smooth, removing the seeds and skin.
  3. Add Ingredients: Pour the tomato puree back into the pot and add vinegar, sugar, salt, spices, and olive oil. If needed, add tomato paste for a thicker consistency.
  4. Final Cooking: Simmer the mixture on low heat for about 30 to 45 minutes until it thickens. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
  5. Cool and Store: Once the ketchup reaches the desired consistency, remove it from the heat and let it cool. Pour it into sterilized jars and store it in the refrigerator.
